  • pitivi：PiTIVi provides several ways of creating and modifying a timeline. Ranging from a simple synopsis view (a-la iMovie) to the full-blown editing view (aka Complex View) which puts you in complete control of your editing.Other interfaces can be added via the plugin system, aimed at more specific uses like a SlideShow creator or a subtitling editor. It is even possible to use pitivi without a user interface in order to do batch rendering.

  • kdenlive ：Kdenlive is a non linear video editor for the KDE environment running on Linux. It is based on the MLT video framework which relies on the FFMPEG project.The project was initially started by Jason Wood in 2002, and is now maintained by a small team of developers. Kdenlive is available in English, French, German, Dutch, Turkish, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Hungarian and Catalan.
(Chong Kai Xiong: Kdenlive 0.5 crashed too often and too quickly for me during tests to be usable at all. This may be fixed in the latest 0.7 beta.)

  • cinelerra：Cinelerra does primarily 3 main things: capturing, compositing, and editing audio and video with sample level accuracy. It's a seamless integration of audio, video, and still photos rarely experienced on a web server.Its crash prone, resource hungry, and really weirdly put together, but if when it works, it does a good job.
(Chong Kai Xiong:Cinelerra couldn't import most of the video samples I had when I tried many months ago.
The problem could be due to Fedora-specific packaging guidelines (to.avoid patent licensing issues) and may not apply to you.)

  • OpenMovieEditor: Open Movie Editor is designed to be a simple video editor, that provides basic movie making capabilities. It aims to be powerful enough for the amateur movie artist, yet easy to use. The downside with OpenMovieEditor is that it only supports PAL at this point. （PAL system ）

One serious drawback I do notice with Blender's VSE is that previews require good hardware to play in real-time. Adobe Premiere,
on the other hand, spends time pre-rendering the preview segment into a file and plays it back from there.
There is no support for text overlays for making subs either.
You must create text objects in the 3D editor and compose them into your video, or use external subtitling software. See this page for some information:

(Chong Kai Xiong:A more elaborate approach is to enable VNC on your X.org server and connect a VNC client like vncrec to record screen updates. After that, transcode the recording into video with mencoder or Transcode, or Flash with vnc2swf. All steps performed require the use of the command line :p

Ubuntu Studio 是Ubuntu的一個衍生版本，是 一個主要為音頻、視頻以及圖形愛好者而準備的多媒體工作平臺。它包含了一系列音頻的編緝以及重播軟體,如ardour、audacious、mixxx； 圖像處理方面的軟體有GIMP、Inkscape和Blender；還有PiTiVi, Kino, Cinepaint等用於視頻處理與製作的軟體。

ArtistX 是 一個基於Debian GNU/Linux的發行版。它幾乎包含所有的支援GNU/Linux平臺的自由軟體，音頻軟體包括：Rosegarden, Ardour, TerminatorX, Cecilia/Csound, Gnusound, Mixxx ；2D圖像軟體有：Gimp, Inkscape, Nip2, Krita, Cinepaint, Synfig, Rawstudio, Skencil；3D圖像軟體有：Wings3D, Kpovmodeler + Povray 3.6, K3D；視頻軟體包括：Cinelerra, Kino, Openmovieeditor, Kdenlive, Pitivi, Avidemux。同樣，ArtistX也是以Live CD的開式發佈，你可以輕鬆的啟動ArtistX並體驗它的強大功能。

dyne:bolic 你不需要再安裝任何軟體，也不需要將dyne:bolic安裝到電腦上(又一個Live CD!)即可使用，它可以自動識別大部人的設備。dyne:bolic是一件多媒體制的利器，你可以用dyne:bolic輕鬆地完成音頻和視頻的錄製、 編緝以及編碼。dyne:bolic對電腦的配置要求也很低，你只要一個pentium1的CPU和64M的記憶體就可以擁有一個完整的媒體工作站。這裡特別介紹一個 LiveCD：dyne:bolic， 它是一個專為多媒體活動愛好者、藝術工作者及創作人員而設立的 LiveCD，幾乎可說是一個完整的多媒體工作室，無須額外安裝任何系統或軟體，使用者就可以利用它所提供的工具對圖形、音效與影像等進行各項操作。 dyne:bolic 和其他 LiveCD 相比有兩個很大的特色，


Dynebolic的特色（取自網路）

一是提供了 "Docking" 的功能，像安裝 Mac OS X 或 BeOS 一樣，只需要將 LiveCD 上的資料夾複製到硬碟的任一分割區 (最少需要 600 MB 的硬碟空間，支援的檔案系統格式為 FAT16/FAT32/Ext2/ReiserFS/BeFS 與 BSD 的 UFS)，該分割區就立刻成為一個可以被啟動的分割區，比起其他內建安裝功能的 LiveCD 來的簡單快速許多﹔

二是提供了 "Nesting" 的功能，將 /home 目錄與其他個人設定的資料都儲存在同一個檔案中，這個 Nest 檔案可以放到 USB 隨身碟等可攜式設備上，即使 LiveCD 升級也不會有損失，與其他的 LiveCD 相比也是方便不少。另外它的執行速度很快，使用的 Linux 核心是可以支援建立 Cluster (叢集) 架構的 (想嘗試叢集架構的話，還有 ClusterKnoppix 這個 LiveCD 喔)！而且除了能夠在一般的 PC 上執行外，

舊版的還能在 Microsoft 的 XBox 上執行喔！不過目前只有部分的中文介面，可能需要有心人士來幫忙了。

會想介紹它純粹是因為它跟我目前所就讀的科系會用到的軟體類型有部分關係，在 Ubuntu Studio 還沒推出以前它大概是最好的選擇了 (推出以後就可以好好來分析測試看看囉 XD)，說到這就順便提一篇國外藝術設計教師轉換到 Open Source Software 來教學的經驗分享吧！ 曾經我有個想法，就是基於 B2Dpure 系列的中文套件，刪減沒用到的軟體，把自己常用與上課會用到的軟體都安裝好，只要一片光碟就可以包含大學四年所要用接觸到的軟體，不過自己很懶，做好了大 概也只有我會去用吧！所以一直沒有把這個想法實現，既然沒有實現，那就多找幾個 LiveCD 來達成類似的效果吧 ^_^

GeeXboX是一個免費 發行的Linux發本，GeeXboX的目的是把你的電腦變為HTPC(家庭影院PC)或媒體中心。GeeXboX以Live CD的形式放出，你可以在一個沒有硬碟的電腦上動行GeeXboX，因為整個系統都是在RAM裏面載入的。GeeXboX已經集成了大量的軟體，它幾乎可以播放任何格式的音頻、視頻和圖像檔。

Musix GNU+Linux基 於Knoppix, Kanotix 和Debian GNU/Linux。Musix包含了大量的自由軟體，是一個100%免費的發行版。Musix可以完成音樂製作、圖形設計以及音頻和視頻編緝等任務。 Musix GNU+Linux提供Live CD(CD支援6種語言)和Live DVD(DVD支援65種語言)，它可以輕易的從你的CD或都DVD光碟機中啟動。
